Isles Own The Third

I have been noting for over a month now how dominant the Isles have been in the third period.

Dating back to the Columbus game on 1/12, the Isles have outscored their opponents 23-6 in the third period.

In that 17 game span, the Isles are:
7-0-0 when leading after 2
1-0-0 when tied after 2
3-4-2 when trailing after 2 -- (in three of the losses they trailed by 2 goals or more)
(11-4-2 total)

This morning, the geniuses from Elias added this:

The Islanders have not been outscored in the third period in any of their last 17 games ("winning" 11 of those periods and "tying" six, while outscoring their opponents, 23-6), thereby setting a record for the longest such streak in the franchise's 43-season history. They were not outscored in the third period in 16 consecutive games late in the 1983-84 season, which was the last season in which the Islanders reached the Stanley Cup Final (losing to the Oilers in five games and ending the Isles' quest for a fifth straight Cup).

3rd periods + Special Teams; Scoring and goalkeeping.  Pretty good combination.
