Draft position update

A bad night on the ice for the Isles becomes a very good night at ping pong as three teams close to the Isles (Carolina, Tampa and Florida) all won.

With tonight's loss, the Isles can not finish ahead of Dallas and are thus guaranteed a 9th seed or higher heading into Tuesday's draft lottery.  If Minnesota gets a point in their game in Calgary tonight, the Isles will be guaranteed an 8th seed or higher.

1 Edmonton Oilers             79 25 46 8 58
2 Toronto Maple Leafs       80 29 37 14 72
3 Tampa Bay Lightning      80 32 36 12 76
4 Florida Panthers              80 32 36 12 76
5 Columbus Blue Jackets  81 32 35 14 78
6 New York Islanders         80 34 36 10 78
7 Carolina Hurricanes        81 35 36 10 80
8 Minnesota Wild               80 37 36 7 81  xxxxxxx does not include Thursday game in Calgary
9 Atlanta Thrashers           80 34 33 13 81

Friday's Draft position schedule:
Atlanta at Washington  If Thrashers win, Isles can not catch Atlanta
Columbus hosts Detroit  Final game of season  for Blue Jackets.  If they don't get a point, they will finish behind Islanders and are     guaranteed either the 3rd or 4th seed (because Tampa and Florida play twice against each other this weekend).

The Isles could still get the third seed if:
2 Isles regulation losses (to NJ and Pit)
Columbus gets at least a point vs. Detroit
Tampa and Florida split their two games, but both games go to OT
