Ex-Isles captain Guerin named to Team USA staff

Guerin will be an assistant coach under Don Waddell for the Deutschland Cup, which will be played in Munich next month. This is a 4-team event, with Slovakia and Switzerland also joining the host country.

In addition to Stanley Cups with New Jersey and Pittsburgh, Guerin won Olympic silver (2002) and World Cup of Hockey gold (1996) for Team USA as a player.

This is an event for older players (over 23 or so) that generally does not attract many recognizable names to the average fan.  When the US last competed (2009), the most recognizable players were Bates Battaglia and former-Islander Jeff Hamilton.

Peter Laviolette coached the squad, which went 2-1 in the event, with all three games decided by a shootout.
