Comeau and waivers

By the time the Isles take the ice on Friday, they will know whether Blake Comeau has been claimed on waivers.  Waivers expire on him at noon.

If he is claimed, the claiming team (Columbus has first shot based on the standings) will assume the balance of his contract, approximately $1.83 Million.

If he clears, the Isles could send him to Bridgeport or keep him on the roster.  If they send him to Bridgeport, he would still make his NHL salary($2.5 million).  If he was sent down, the only way he could rejoin the Isles this season would be to clear re-entry waivers in which any of the other teams could claim him for half of his salary.

Comeau would not count against the salary cap if he was sent down.

Comeau is a Restricted Free Agent after this season.
