Arbour records safe as Sabres fire Ruff

The Sabres tweeted earlier this afternoon that Lindy Ruff has been relieved of his duties.  Ruff finished at/above NHL 500 in every season but one (2002-03).

Ruff's firing ensures Al Arbour's games coached and games won records with one team are safe for a little while longer:

Coached with One Team
Arbour, Al, NYI 1500
Ruff, Lindy, Buf. 1165
Trotz, Barry, Nsh. 1083  (active) -- would reach 1500 late in 2017-18 season
Reay, Billy, Chi. 1012
Adams, Jack, Det. 964

Won with One Team
Arbour, Al, NYI 740
Ruff, Lindy, Buf. 571
Reay, Billy, Chi. 516
Trotz, Barry, Nsh. 511 (active)
Blake, Toe, Mtl. 500

(After Trotz, Mike Babock has the next longest tenure with one team; he'll coach his 600th game with the Red Wings next month)

The Sabres next play on Thursday in Toronto before hosting the Isles on Saturday.  These will be their first games without Ruff behind the bench since May 11, 1997, when, with Ted Nolan as coach,  the Flyers eliminated Buffalo from the playoffs.
