Tyler Toffoli broke a 2-2 tie for the winning goal with 87 seconds to play as the Los Angeles Kings rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 victory over the Islanders, disappointing a crowd of 13,922 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.  It was the Isles' fifth loss in their last six games (1-5-0).

The Skinny:  
Casey Cizikas gave the Isles the lead with his first goal in 28 regular season games before Aaron Ness' first NHL goal doubled the advantage 2:14 later.  John Tavares set-up Ness' goal to extend his assist and point streaks to four games.  The Isles have scored 28 of their 54 goals in the second period, but have been outscored 20-11 in the third period.  The Isles have been outscored 13-2 in the third period of the last ten games…Tanner Pearson's tying goal was also his first in the NHL and it came in his first NHL regular season game; Linden Vey assisted on the tying and winning goals… Tyler Toffoli's winning goal extended his point streak to five games…. The Kings are 7-2-1 in 1-goal games while the Isles are 4-6-3…The Isles are 4-2-1 in games that they lead after 40 minutes; it was the first time since March 19th (led Ottawa 3-1, lost 5-3) that the Isles lost a game in regulation that they led by at least two goals after two periods.

Islander captain John Tavares was held without a shot for the first time in 69 games (April 5, 2012 vs. Winnipeg).
 
Home and Road
The Islanders are 7-10-3 overall, 4-4-3 at home and 3-6-0 on the road.  The Isles have held a two-goal lead at some point in six of their 11 home games, but are only 3-2-1 in those games.
The Kings are 12-6-1 overall; they are 7-3-0 at home and 5-3-1 on the road.  The Kings are 1-0-1 on their Eastern road trip, which includes stops in Newark tomorrow and at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

In the Nets
Kevin Poulin made 21 saves but falls to 2-5-0 on the season.  Poulin has allowed only 10 goals (6 at even-strength) in his last five starts (2-3-0, 2.01 goals against average, 92.8 save percentage).
Ben Scrivens made 23 saves for the Kings in his first start following the Tuesday injury to Jonathan Quick.  Scrivens is now 2-1-1 on the season.

Power Plays
The Islanders were 0-4 while the Kings were 1-3. 
The Isles are 4-2-3 when they score at least one power play goal and 3-8-0 when they do not.  The Isles are 1-8-2 when they allow at least one power play goal and 6-2-1 when they do not. 
Over the last ten games, the Isles power play is 3-35 (8.6%) while the penalty kill is 13-35 (62.9%).

Three is a Magic Number
The Isles are 7-1-2 when they score at least three goals and are 0-9-1 when they do not.

The Isles are 5-2-3 when they score first and are 2-8-0 when they allow the opening goal.

Second to The One
Jack Capuano is now 2nd on the all-time Islander list in both games coached (215) and wins (91).

Back-to-Backs
The Isles are 3-2-0 in the front-end and 1-3-1 on the back end of back-to-backs this season.
They have earned 4 points once, 3 points once, 2 points once, and no points on two occasions.
The Isles do not play back-to-back again until November 22 (in Pittsburgh) and November 23 (in Philadelphia).

Head of the Class
John Tavares has 272 career points; he is 60 points ahead of Matt Duchene for most among 2009 draft picks.  No other player from that draft is anywhere close.  Tavares also has more goals and more assists than any other player from that draft.

Leading Ice Men
Andrew MacDonald played 30:46 to lead the Isles for the 16th time this season; it's the 3rd time this year that he has played at least 30 minutes. Drew Doughty led Los Angeles with 25:19. 
The Isles are 6-8-2 when MacDonald leads them in ice-time and 1-2-1 when Hamonic leads them. MacDonald is now averaging 27:01 per game, which is the highest average of any player in the Eastern Conference and 3rd in the NHL behind Minnesota's Ryan Suter and Calgary's Denis Wideman.

In the Circle
The Islanders won 22 of 53 draws. Frans Nielsen won 8 of 14 to lead the Isles but the other Isles won a combined 14 of 39; Colin Fraser won 5 of 6 for Los Angeles.
It's the 9th time this season that the Isles have lost at least nine more draws than they had won.
The Isles are 28th in the NHL in faceoff percentage, winning 44.9% while Los Angeles leads the NHL at 55.3%.

Heavy Hitters
The Isles out-hit Los Angeles 24-23.  Matt Martin led the Isles with six hits, extending his NHL-leading total to 91.
Matt Carkner fought Jordan Nolan in the opening period. The Isles have been involved in six fights this season: Martin (3), Boulton (2), and Carkner (1).

Giving Up the Body
The Isles were credited with 15 blocked shots; Andrew MacDonald extended his league-leading total to 75 with four blocks. 

All–time Winners
The Islanders fall to six games over all-time NHL .500 (1378-1372-442 in 3,192 games).  The Isles have finished every season since 1977-78 above all-time NHL .500.

Ironmen
John Tavares is the reigning Islanders' ironman. Tavares has now played in 227 consecutive games, which is the second-longest streak for an Islander in the Post Cup era.
Frans Nielsen (150) and Kyle Okposo (133) also have streaks of at least 100 consecutive games.

Missing Men
Lubomir Visnovsky and Brian Strait are on injured reserve. Thomas Vanek missed his third game with an upper body injury. Eric Boulton and Radek Martinek were scratched. The Isles have lost 38 games this season due to injury.

Nobody Beat the Viz
The Isles were 19-12-4 last season and are 3-3-2 this season with Lubomir Visnovsky in the lineup.  They were 5-5-3 last season and 4-7-1 this season without him in the lineup.

Season Series Stats
The Kings lead the season series one game to none (and two points to zero); the teams will play again on December 7th at Staples Center.
The Isles are 2-6-2 in their last ten games against the Kings.

Happy Anniversary
16 years ago tonight: November 14, 1997.  Tom Chorske scored twice and Tommy Salo made 33 saves as the Islanders defeated Tampa Bay 4-1.  It was Chorske's first two goals in an Islander uniform.
Overall the Islanders are now 6-6-4 on this date.

On The Farm
Bridgeport went 1-1-0-1 last weekend and is now 4-6-1-1 on the season.  The Sound Tigers visit Springfield Friday and host the Connecticut Wolf Pack on Saturday.

The homestand concludes on Saturday as the Islanders entertain the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings have visited the Coliseum just twice since January 2007 but will now visit Long Island twice within two weeks.
The Isles are 5-0-1 in their last six games against Detroit and have not been beaten in regulation by the Red Wings since Black Friday, 2003.
