It Happened at the Coliseum … on OCTOBER 25th

11 years ago tonight (2003) – Mario Lemieux did not go -4 in a game very often, but he did on this night as the Isles pounded the future Penguin owner and his teammates 7-2 at the Coliseum.

Trent Hunter and Mariusz Czerkawski each scored twice for the Isles; Sean Bergenheim added his first NHL goal. Hunter’s goals were his first in regular season play for the Isles; he had already scored in the previous year’s 2002 playoffs against Toronto.

Like some other famous games between the teams, this one featured a slew of fights – four in all – as the Penguins were more competitive with their fists than with their sticks.

Also on this date: (2008) – The Isles throw a franchise-record 60 shots at Carolina’s Cam Ward, including a last-second penalty shot attempt by Doug Weight, but fall 4-3 to the Canes.

All-time, the Isles have played eleven October 25th games at the Coliseum and have compiled a 4-6-1 record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.  The 12th and final October 25th home game is tonight –as the Isles host Dallas at 7:00. Make sure you’re there, because after tonight, there are only 37 regular season games remaining.
