It Happened at the Coliseum … on OCTOBER 5th

One Year Ago Tonight (2013): The Isles have also played only once at home on this date, and it happened last season.

In what would become a familiar pattern, the Isles built a 2-0 lead heading to the third, only to fall 3-2 in a shootout to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Lubomir Visnovsky and Matt Moulson scored the Islander goals; each also had an assist.  John Tavares had two helpers, but Nick Foligno was credited with the tying goal when the puck was deflected in off the Islanders' Peter Regin and then Cam Atkinson had the shootout winner for the Jackets.

"I don't think we were bad," Frans Nielsen told Newsday's Arthur Staple. "We were maybe a little too open, trading chances, when we should have been tighter with the lead."

Visnovsky's goal extended an unusual streak – a different defenseman has scored the first Islander goal on home ice in five straight seasons, joining Mark Streit, James Wisniewski, Andrew MacDonald and Travis Hamonic (the last Isles forward to score the first goal of the season at home was Mike Comrie in 2008)

All-time, the Isles played one October 5th game at the Coliseum, and finish with a 0-0-1 record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.
