The Final MLK Matinee

A Nassau County tradition comes to an end on Monday as the Isles host Philadelphia in the final Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Matinee.

The will be the 9th consecutive year that the Isles have hosted this game -- the NHL lockout ended just in time in 2013.  The Isles have won their last two MLK games including a shootout win last season in which Kyle Okposo had a Gordie Howe hat trick and then the shootout winner..

Notes on two of the losses -- 1997 featured the infamous post-game skate. Islander coach Mike Milbury was not satisfied with the team's effort in the third period, so he had a 30 minute skate for the players...after the game. 2000 was infamous for another reason -- the Isles earned their first-ever loser point in an OT loss to Ottawa.
