Isles 4, Calgary 0
Mikhail Grabovski broke a scoreless tie with a 2nd period power play goal and the Islanders broke the game open with three 3rd period goals as they defeated the Calgary Flames, 4-0 before a crowd of 11,582 at Barclays Center.  Jaroslav Halak recorded his 2nd shutout of the season and 38th career shutout. The Isles are 6-1-0 in their last seven games and their overall 6-2-1 record is their 2nd best through nine games in the Post-Cup era (7-0-1-1 in 2001-02).

The Skinny:
 
The Isles have outscored their opponents 15-7 in the third period and they lead the NHL in 3rd period goals…The Isles' penalty killers are 21-21 over the last six games and have now killed 91.2% of opponents' opportunities… Frans Nielsen recorded his 8th career multi-goal game, and his first since his only career hat trick, which came one year and one day ago…John Tavares' point streak ended at six games…Josh Bailey has points in three straight games and five points in five games…Kyle Okposo now has 9 points (3-6-9) in the last seven games…Nikolay Kulemin has six points (2-4-6) in his last six games…Cal Clutterbuck didn't score his 3rd goal last season until November 29th…The Isles have recorded two shutouts in October for the first time since 2001…Calgary has been outscored 28-7 in the second & third periods this season…The Flames scored on their first shot against the Rangers on Sunday and then went scoreless in their final 116:54 in New York.
 
First Time in a Ridiculously Long Time:
The Isles shutout the Flames for the first time since the day Ronald Reagan was inaugurated for his first-term as US President, January 20, 1981.  The Isles won that game, the 48th of Mike Bossy's 50 in 50 season, by a 5-0 score with Chico Resch in the nets. The teams had played 61 times since then; the Isles have blanked every other NHL team besides Anaheim and Nashville in the interim.
 
The Shots:
Isles        14-10-11=35

The 35 shots were the most for the Isles in the last six games, and ended a streak of three straight games in which they had 26 or fewer shots on goal.

Home and Road
The Islanders are 6-2-1 overall; 4-1-1 at home and 2-1-0 on the road.  It's only the second time in the Post-Cup era that they have earned at least 13 points in their first nine games (16 in 2001-02).
 
Calgary is 2-7-0 overall; 1-4-0 at home and 1-3-0 on the road. 

By Division
The Isles are 1-0-0 in Division games and are 5-2-1 in games against other divisions. They are 0-1-0 vs. the Atlantic Division, 3-1-1 vs. Central Division, and 2-0-0 vs. the Pacific Division. 
The Isles finished last season 21-6-3 against the Met and 26-22-4 against other Divisions. 

In the Nets
Jaroslav Halak made 29 saves to improve to 3-1-0 and lower his goals against average to 1.77.  He is 7-5-1 in his career against Calgary and has allowed only two goals in his last four games against the Flames.
Joni Ortio made 31 saves but falls to 0-1-0.  He is 1-1-0 in his career against the Isles.

Power Plays
The Islanders were 1-3 on the power play, while Calgary was 0-3. 
The Isles are 4-1-0 when they score at least one power play goal and 2-1-1 when they do not.  The Isles are 1-1-1 when they allow at least one power play goal and 5-1-0 when they do not. 

Three is a Magic Number
The Isles are 6-1-0 when they score at least three goals (including shootout winners) and are 0-1-1 when they do not.  The Isles were 40-8-4 when they scored at least goals (including SO winners) last season.

One Goal Games
The Isles are 2-0-1 in games decided by a single goal including 1-0-0 in regulation. They are 1-1 in games decided in overtime and are 0-0 in shootouts.  The Isles are 1-0 in games in which an empty-net goal turns a 1 goal game into a 2-goal game.

First Goal
The Isles are 4-0-0 when they score first and are 2-2-1 when they allow the opening goal.   

Second to The One
Jack Capuano is the 2nd winningest coach in Islander history. Capuano is 171-150-47 behind the Islander bench. Among the 9 New York teams, only the Giants' Tom Coughlin and the Yankees' Joe Girardi have led their respective teams longer than Capuano.

Back-to-Backs
The Isles are 0-1-1 in the front-end and 1-1-0 on the back end of back-to-backs this season.  Their next back-to-back set will be next weekend, when they visit New Jersey on Saturday and host Buffalo on Sunday.

On The Farm
The Sound Tigers earned a 9-round shootout win on Sunday in St. John's, Newfoundland to improve to 6-2-0-0 on the season.  Connor Jones scored the deciding goal in the shootout in his first game as a Sound Tiger.
Bridgeport visits Springfield on Wednesday and Albany on Friday before coming home to play Utica on Sunday.

The Isles remain home and will entertain the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night in the first of their four Metropolitan Division meetings this season.  Carolina is off to a 2-6-0 start; they will visit Detroit on Tuesday before heading to Brooklyn for the final game of their seven game road trip.
The Isles won three out of four games last season and have won 4 of the last 5 meetings between the teams
