The Skinny: Detroit 4, Isles 3 (OT)

"The Skinny"

 By Eric Hornick
Game 24
Detroit 4, Isles 3 (OT)
Danny Dekeyser scored 1:02 into overtime for his first career overtime goal as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Isles 4-3 before a crowd of 13,789 at Barclays Center.
Johnny Boychuk and Josh Bailey had each scored tying goals in the third period to earn the Isles a point for a season-high fourth straight game (3-0-1). It was the first time in eight Islander overtime games this season that they had scored the final goal of regulation.
Mike Green scored twice for Detroit; his potential hat trick goal was reversed due to goalie interference.  No defensemen in Red Wing history has ever scored two hat tricks in the same season (Green had one in October vs. Winnipeg) and there hasn't been an NHL defenseman with two hat tricks in the same season in over 30 years!

JF Berube dressed as the back-up goalie for the seventh straight game… Detroit's Brian Lashoff made his first appearance in an NHL game since December 29, 2014… Frans Nielsen earned an assist in his first game against the Isles after playing 606 games for the team…The Isles earned their first point this season (0-7-1) when trailing after two periods; they are 0-9-2 in their last 11 dating back to last season when trailing after two periods… The Isles defense chipped in 1 goal and 1 assist, raising the season totals to 18-34-52…Alan Quine had a career high five shots; Johnny Boychuk had two (including his 4th goal).  Only John Tavares (73) has more shots for the Isles than Boychuk (59) …No active NHL defensemen has more than one career hat trick.  (The last Isles defenseman with a hat trick was Denis Potvin, on March 4, 1982 vs. Toronto.)
