* The
Islanders earned points in back-to-back games this weekend, marking the
fourth time this season the team has earned at least a point in both
games of a back-to-back set. The Islanders shutout the Red Wings, 2-0,
in Detroit on Friday before suffering a 4-3 shootout loss against the
Flyers on Saturday night at Nassau Coliseum.•
* Goaltender Joey MacDonald recorded 42 saves on Friday night in Detroit to record his first NHL
shutout. The shutout was even sweeter for MacDonald, who began his NHL
career with the Red Wings in 2006-07. "It's an unbelievable feeling to
get my first shutout in the NHL against my former team," said
MacDonald. "It's a perfect night."
* The 2-0 win
marked the Islanders' first shutout in Detroit since January 22, 1981.
Bill Smith made 34 saves for the victory, while Gord Lane scored the
game-winning goal and Clark Gillies added two tallies. Mike Bossy also
earned two assists in the game.
* Center Frans Nielsen scored his first career shorthanded goal in Friday's win against the Red Wings.
* The Islanders reassigned right wing Joel Rechlicz to Bridgeport (AHL). Rechlicz has one assist and 30 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Islanders this season.
* The
Islanders announced this weekend that the Bridgeport Sound Tigers – the
team's American Hockey League affiliate – will play their first two
home games of the Calder Cup Playoffs at Nassau Coliseum. Click here for more information.
* The
Sharp Player of the Month for March will be presented at the Islanders'
next home game on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.
* I.C.E. Tour: Booster Club Meeting – Long Island Marriott @ 7:30pm – 9:00pm
