Jiri Tlusty scored twice, and the Carolina Hurricanes survived a late rally to hand the Isles a 4-3 defeat before a crowd of 13,008 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The loss drop the Isles back to NHL .500 at 3-3-2; they are 1-3-1 in their last five games. The loss ends the Isles' 10-game point streak on home-ice (going back to last season), which matches the 1989-90 squad for the longest home-ice point streak in the post-Cup era.

The Skinny:
The Hurricanes are now 4-0-3 in one goal games, while the Isles are 2-3-2…Jiri Tlusty did not have a point in Carolina's first eight games; he now has 6 goals in 16 career games against the Isles…The Isles had trailed by 2 goals for a total of 3:01 over the first seven games, before trailing by two, and later three, tonight… After being held pointless in the opener, John Tavares has a point in seven straight games (2nd longest streak of his career – he had a 12 game streak in 2011-12; Tavares also has a point in nine straight games against Carolina… This was the fifth straight game to be decided by one goal; seven of the Isles' eight games this season have been decided by one goal (and 11 of 12, going back to last season)…Frans Nielsen tied John Tavares for the team lead in goals (4); he had only six goals last season. Matt Moulson had three points, matching his season total for the first seven games…The Isles lost Lubomir Visnovsky with a possible concussion late in the first period…Kyle Okposo had only 3 goals in the first 37 games last season…The Isles had scored only three third period goals this season before adding two goals in the third period tonight.
Fort Never Lose (in Regulation)
Going back to last season, the Isles had been 7-0-3 in their last 10 regular season games at the Coliseum before the loss; this matches their longest point streak on home ice in the Post Cup era (9-0-1 from 12/16/89 to 1/28/90). The Isles last had a longer streak on home ice when they went 28-0-2 at the Coliseum from January 2 –October 30, 1982..
Back in Black
The Isles wore their black jerseys for the first time this season and are now 0-1-0. They went 3-2-0 last season in the black jersey.

Evgeni Nabokov made 19 saves but falls to 3-2-2 on the season. Nabokov, who stayed in the game after being shaken up in a collision during the second period, falls to 8-2-2 against the Hurricanes in his career.
Cam Ward made 22 saves for Carolina to improve to 2-2-3. Ward is 17-3-3 in his career against the Isles.
Power Plays
The Islanders were 2-5 while the Hurricanes were 1-3. The third Isles goals was in essence also a power play goal, coming with Nabokov on the bench and just two seconds after a Hurricane penalty expired.
The Isles are 2-1-2 when they score at least one power play goal and 1-2-0 when they do not. All seven of the Isles' PP goals this season have come at the Coliseum (7-21 at home, 0-7 on the road).
The Isles are 0-2-2 when they allow at least one power play goal and 3-1-0 when they do not. The Isles have killed 19 of 23 opponents' power plays this season.

John Tavares has 259 career points; he is 58 points ahead of Matt Duchene for most among 2009 draft picks. No other player from that draft is anywhere close. Tavares also has more goals and more assists than any other player from that draft.

Moulson has 121 career goals (115 as an Islander). While 262 players were selected before the Penguins chose Moulson in the 2003 entry draft, only 16 have more goals.

Andrew Mac Donald played 30:25 to lead the Isles for the sixth time this season. It's the third time in his career that he has played at least 30 minutes, but the first time in a game decided in regulation. Andrej Sekera led Carolina with 28:32.
The Isles are 3-2-1 when MacDonald leads them in ice-time and 0-1-1 when Hamonic leads them.
MacDonald is the first Islander to play over 30 minutes in a game decided in regulation since Tom Poti did so on April 7, 2007 vs Philadelphia. The last seven times an Islander had played over 30 minutes was in overtime games.
In the Circle
The Islanders won 29 of 53 draws. Casey Cizikas won 7 of 9 to lead the Isles for the fourth straight game; he has won 31 of 47 in the last four games. Jordan Staal won 12 of 22 for Carolina.
Heavy Hitters
The Islanders out-hit Carolina 13-7. Matt Martin had six hits to lead the Isles. There were no fights, leaving the season total at 1: Boulton (1).

Missing Men
Matt Carkner replaced Matt Donovan in the lineup; Brock Nelson was scratched for the third straight game and was loaned to Bridgeport after the game. Eric Boulton was also scratched. The Isles have lost four games this season due to injury.

Season Series Stats
The Hurricanes lead the season series one game to none (and two points to none) with three games to play. The teams will next play on November 7th in Raleigh.
The Isles have lost four straight (0-3-1) to Carolina and the Hurricanes hold a 21-5-5 record in the last 31 games between the teams. 8 years ago tonight (10-19-05): In the first shootout in club history, the Islanders defeat the Rangers 3-2 at Madison Square Garden. Miroslav Satan had the game-deciding goal to give Rick DiPietro the first of his club record 19 shootout wins.
