Tavares Streak to end Tonight

Jack Capunao announced this morning that John Tavares will miss tonight's game with New Jersey with a lower body injury.

This will end the 5th-longest consecutive game streak in Islander history:

Longest Consecutive Game Streaks, Islander History
1. Billy Harris 576
2. Bob Nystrom 301
3. Matt Moulson 284
4. Denis Potvin 262
5. John Tavares 246
6. JP Parise 240

Frans Nielsen now has the longest current streak -- 168 games, which began at the start of the 2011-12 season. He is expected to play in his 169th game tonight.
(note that there was a typo in The Skinny after Monday's game -the correct length of Tavares' streak is 246, which is the equivalent of three 82-game seasons.)

Tavares missed three games early in the 2010-11 season, after he suffered a concussion when he collided with Adam Burish late in the first period of the season opener against Dallas.  Those were the only games that he had missed in his NHL career, until tonight.
