The Skinny on Starting and Finishing

Over this past week I've received this question a lot -- how many goals have the Isles allowed late in periods.  We mentioned on the telecast last night that the Isles have allowed 8 goals in the last 10 seconds of a period this season.

Here are some other numbers:

Starting periods:
First minute: Isles scored 10 goals and allowed 9 goals
First 2 minutes: Isles scored 25 goals and allowed 20 goals

Ending periods (excluding overtime)
Last 2 minutes:  Isles scored 33 goals (8 of which were EN goals) and allowed 30 (6 of which were empty nets)
Last 1 minute:  Isles scored 17 goals (5 of which were EN goals) and allowed 18 (3 of which were empty nets)
Last 30 seconds: Isles scored 10 goals (2 of which were EN goals) and allowed 14 (3 of which were empty nets)

but here's the one that bit them 3 times this week:
Last 10 seconds:  Isles scored 6 goals (2 of which were EN goals) and allowed 8 (0 of which were empty nets)

So, the Isles' GAA in the last 10 seconds of periods was 11.71 (8 goals in 41 minutes).  Of course, the Isles allowed a goal in the last 10 seconds in each of the last three games, which is equivalent to a full-game GAA of 120.00 (3 goals in 90 seconds).
