Tampa Bay 7, Isles 4
Tyler Johnson and Jason Garrison scored 23 seconds apart midway through the third period as the Tampa Bay Lightning broke a 4-4 tie and went on to defeat the Islanders 7-4 before a sellout crowd of 19,092 at Amalie Arena.

The winning goals by the Lightning were the fourth of four pairs of goals scored in this game in 23 seconds or less (9, 23, 19, 23 seconds).
With the loss, the Isles remain one point behind third place Penguins and remain two points ahead of the fifth place Flyers. All three teams have nine games to play.

The Isles magic number for clinching a playoff spot remains 14.

The Skinny
The Isles scored first for the second straight game and managed their first goal in the first period in 140:46 of first period play…The Isles have gone 10 games without leading after the first period and have led after one period only once (3/6 at Rangers, 4-3) of the last 15 games… The Isles improved to 26-2-2 when leading after two periods…The Isles allowed 42 shots; it's the most they have allowed since JF Berube faced 43 shots against Minnesota on February 2nd…The Lightning tied Florida for first place in the Atlantic Division; each team has 91 points and eight games to play with the Lightning holding the tie-breaker…Nikolay Kulemin scored his first goal since Super Bowl Sunday, ending a 21-game drought…Brock Nelson scored for the 2nd straight game to reach 25 goals for the first time in his career…Steven Stamkos recorded his 311th career goal, breaking a tie with Denis Potvin on the all-time NHL goal list; Jason Garrison's assist on that goal was the 100th of his NHL career…Ondrej Palat assisted on the final three Tampa goals for the fifth 3-assist game of his career; he also tied the Tampa record for assists in a period…The two Lightning goals in the first period were scored only nine seconds apart; it tied the Lightning record for fastest two goals and was their fastest pair ever at home.

The Isles allowed 4 third period goals for the first time since December 11, 2014...The Isles allowed seven goals in a game for the first time since February 18, 2013 vs. Philadelphia and allowed 7 goals in a road game for the first time since April 7, 2012 in Columbus.
 
Movin' On Up
Frans Nielsen played his 598th game as an Islander, passing Kenny Jonsson for 12th place among skaters on the all-time Islander list.
Josh Bailey played in his 548th game, passing Duane Sutter for 17th place on the Isles' all-time list. His assist on Nelson's goal was his 155th as an Islander, passing David Volek for 26th place on the Isles all-time list and his assist on Boychuk's goal was his 249th point, tying Volek for 26th place on that list.

The Isles are 22-9-4 on home-ice (48 points), matching their most points through 34 games in the last 30 years (48 in 1987-88; 50 in 1984-85). They are once again 13 games over-.500 at home, matching a season high.
The Isles have clinched an above NHL-.500 finish at home.  It is the first time since 2005-06 and 2006-07 that the Isles have recorded successive home seasons above NHL-.500.

Road Warriors
The Isles are 17-16-5 on the road this season.  In the Post-Cup era, the Isles have earned more than 39 points in the first 38 road games only three times (46 in first 38 on road last season, 41 in first 38 in 2001-02 and 40 in first 38 in 2002-03).

How The West Was Won
The Isles went 19-7-2 against the Western Conference, including 12-0-2 at home. The Isles have the most wins of any Eastern Conference team against the Western Conference and are guaranteed to finish with at least the 2nd-best record of an Eastern team vs. the West.  (Washington is 15-5-3 and still has five games left against the West)

In the Nets
Thomas Greiss made 35 saves but allows 6 goals for the first time as an Islander and second time in his career (2-11-13 vs Columbus).  Greiss is 19-11-4 on the season and 2-1-0 in his career against Tampa Bay.
Ben Bishop made 27 saves to improve to 32-19-4; Bishop is 5-3-1 in his career against the Isles,

Power Plays
The Islanders were 0-3 on the power play, while Tampa Bay was 0-3.
The Isles power play is 1-16 over their last nine games (2-5-2).

It's the first time since last season's finale that the Isles scored four goals and lost; including one game in which the shootout winner was the 4th goal, the Isles had been 23-0-0 when scoring four times.

One Goal Games
The Isles are 17-6-9 in games decided by a single goal including 9-6-0 in regulation. They are 4-4 in games decided in overtime and are 4-5 in shootouts.  The Isles are 6-5 in games in which an empty-net goal turns a 1 goal game into a 2-goal game.

First Goal
The Isles are 26-6-4 when they score first and are 13-19-5 when they allow the opening goal.   

Second to The One
Jack Capuano, the 2nd winningest coach in Islander history, is 204-173-55 behind the Islander bench.  Among the 9 New York area teams, only the Yankees' Joe Girardi has led his team longer than Capuano.

On The Farm
The Sound Tigers' winless streak extended to two games with a 2-1 overtime loss in Hartford; Scott Mayfield had the only goal for Bridgeport, who are now 36-24-4-3 on the season trail Providence by just one point in the battle for 3rd place in the Atlantic Division.  Bridgeport hosts Portland Tuesday in their only game in the next seven days.

The Isles begin a stretch against three teams that are out of playoff position with the first of consecutive games against the Carolina Hurricanes.
 
The teams have met twice this season, with Carolina earning an overtime win in Brooklyn on October 29th and then scoring five second period goals enroute to a 6-3 win over the Isles in Raleigh on February 13th.
 
This has been a streaky series since 2010, with the Isles going through stretches of 0-5-1, 4-0-0, 0-5-1, and 4-0-0 prior to the current 0-2-1 stretch.
