"The Skinny"

 By Eric Hornick

Game 69
Isles 3, Carolina 2 (OT)
John Tavares scored his 9th career overtime goal as the Isles rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 before a crowd of 8,707 at PNC Arena.

Joshua Ho-Sang had a goal and an assist for the second straight night as the Isles erased a 2-0 deficit to win for the first time in 12 games this season that they have allowed the first two goals.

With the win, the Isles move back into the 2nd Wild Card spot; they are tied with Tampa Bay in terms of points.  Both teams have 13 games to play and the Isles have two more regulation/overtime wins.  Toronto fell one point behind the Isles tonight; the Leafs hold a game in hand.

The Skinny:
The Isles are 16-8-3 (.648) under Interim Coach Doug Weight …Since opening the season 6-10-4, Isles are 27-15-7 in their last 49 games…The Isles are 7-4-1 in the last 12 games... The Isles' top line has 26 goals (and 41 assists) in 27 games under Weight… Joshua Ho-Sang has five points in the last three games (2-3-5) …Anthony Beauvillier's point streak ended at three games…The Isles have scored a goal in the second period of the last eight games…The Isles have won their last three games decided in overtime after allowing the overtime goal in five straight games decided in the extra session…Jason Chimera is now just three goals shy of his career high of 20, set in 2011-12 and equaled last season…Lucas Wallmark, who made his NHL debut at Barclays on Monday, recorded his first point…Brock Nelson missed the game with injury, ending his consecutive game streak at 82.  Nelson had played 284 of the last 285 regular season games.

Happy Pi Day, Again!
For the second straight season, the Isles rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 win on Pi Day (3/14).  Last year it was Cal Clutterbuck scoring the winner as the Isles scored three in the third to beat Florida in Brooklyn.  That was also the last time the Isles rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win (regular season only).

Experience Counts … 17 Times
Jason Chimera is only the second Islander age 36 or over to score 17 goals in a season; Bill Guerin, who turned 37 early in the 2007-08 season, scored 23 times that season.  Guerin also scored 16 times the next season, before being dealt to Pittsburgh.

The 300 Club
Josh Bailey remains one point shy of becoming the 6th player from his draft class to reach 300 points:
(Stamkos, Karlsson, Eberle, Doughty, and Stepan have already done so.)  His next point will also be his 50th point of the season.
