The Skinny
The Isles are 10-4-2 since they opened 0-3-0; the 22 points since October 16th trail only Colorado and New Jersey for the most in the NHL in that span…Bo Horvat's point streak ended at eight games (6-5-11); the Isles ended Nathan MacKinnon's 11-game point streak....The Isles killed all three Colorado power plays; they have killed 31 of the last 34… The Isles went 0-4 on the power play for the second straight game … Mathew Barzal and Jonathan Drouin had point streaks end at six games and four games respectively…Colorado has outscored their opponents 28-8 in the first period; the +20 differential is the best in the NHL and the eight goals allowed are five fewer than any other team…The Isles failed in their first attempt to go 5-over NHL-.500; they never reached that mark last season…Brent Burns played his 944th consecutive game; he could play his 1,000th consecutive game on April 4th in Dallas…Emil Heineman now has nine goals; he is 2nd in goals among Swedish-born NHL'ers (Leo Carlsson -11)...The Avs are 11-0-0 when leading after two periods, and remain one of two teams (New Jersey) without a regulation loss at home…The Avs have won six straight and are 8-0-2 in their last ten games.
Happy Birthday Emil
Emil Heineman, playing on his 24th birthday, scored the opening goal for the 3rd straight game. He joins Kyle Palmieri (2/1/25 vs Tampa Bay) and Casey Cizikas (2/27/22 at Anaheim) as active players who have scored for the Isles on their birthday.
Heineman also joins John Tonelli (1/11-15/1983) and Ray Ferraro (1/9-13/1991) as the only Isles to score the opening goal in three straight games; Heineman is the only one to do so in three consecutive games, with all games played on the road.
