He had eight power play points in an eleven game span earlier
this season. The Isles, as a team, have only eight pp goals in
the last sixteen games.
Bergeron also has wheels and a great shot. He won the Oilers'
skill competition this year for both the fastest skater and for
the hardest shot.
I guess we'll learn soon why the Oilers were willing to give him
up....
While I wasn't at the game, I remember the date of the Isles'
beating of the Leafs that night for a different reason -- it was
the day the space shuttle Challenger exploded.

2. The Isles are now 3-19-0 when trailing after two periods;
however this is the first of the three wins in regulation time.
They defeated Florida in December and Boston earlier this month,
but both victories were in shootouts. In fact, the Isles won
only one game all last year (1-29-2) when trailing after two
periods (March 7 vs New Jersey)
The last time the Isles won a game IN REGULATION after trailing
after two periods was on March 16, 2004 in Tampa Bay -- the
Isles erased a 1-0 deficit and won 3-1 on third period goals by
Mattias Weinhandl, Justin Papineau and Justin Blake.
The last time the Isles won a game IN REGULATION AT HOME after
trailing after 40 minutes was on January 31, 2004 vs Florida --
the Isles erased a 2-1 deficit and won 4-2 on one goal by Hunter
and two by Blake.

The Isles lead the series 1-0, with a come-from-behind 3-1 win
at MSG in November. It's the first of two meetings between the
teams at the Coliseum this season.
The Isles have won three straight over the Rangers, and will be
looking for their first 4 game win streak over the Rangers in
over twenty years:

The game is being played on the 21st anniversary of the start of
the Isles then-record 15-game winning streak.
On January 21, 1982, the Isles defeated the Penguins 6-1 to
begin the streak. Bryan Trottier scored the winning goal, on a
4-on-4 late in the 2nd period. It was his 250th NHL goal, and
came in Denis Potvin's 600th NHL game.
My scoresheet from that night carries a couple of other notes:
Bobby Bourne had a pair of goals while Brent Sutter, Clark
Gillies and Billy Carroll also scored for the Isles. Rick
MacLeish had the Penguin goal.
Gillies, Trottier and Bossy all had points in 15 of the last 16.
On a personal note, the scorebook also carries the notation:
"My first game!" While it wasn't the first Isles game I
attended--that had come nearly ten years earlier, it was the
first game I attended without a ticket. It was the night I
debuted as the statistician on Islander telecasts, a role that I
continue to hold today.

against the Rangers. Only one of the 29 came in the situation
that they face tomorrow night: win a game ON THE ROAD after
beating the Rangers at MSG.
On February 1, 1978, the Islanders beat the Rangers 7-6 at the
Garden (in a game that Chico Resch was thrown out late in the
third period).
The next night, the Isles went into Atlanta, and beat the Flames
5-2 (Bob Lorimer's first NHL goal; fellow rookie Mike Bossy
scored # 36),
In their history, the Isles are 6-18-10 in the game following a
win at MSG. The other five wins all came at the Coliseum.
Their most recent win, however, was in the back-half of the
home-home against the Rangers in October 2005.
