Colorado 3, Isles 1

Andre Burakovsky reached the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career and got two assists from both Cale Makar and Nathan McKinnon as they defeated the Isles 3-1 before a sellout crowd of 18,011 at Pepsi Center.

Brock Nelson scored the Isles' only goal with a 6th attacker on the ice but that was as close as they got as they fell to 33-20-6 on the season.

The Isles have lost four straight games, all in regulation. It's the first time since December 29, 2017- January 5, 2018 (0-5-0) that the Isles have lost four straight regulation games.

Maybe a dynasty celebration will be just the tonic this Isles team needs. John Tonelli's #27 will be raised to the rafters in a ceremony that will be emceed by Jiggs McDonald beginning at 6:30.

Following the ceremony, the Isles (4-1-0 vs Wings under Barry Trotz) will be looking to sweep the season series from Detroit for the first time since the Red Wings moved to the Eastern Conference.

The Isles defeated Detroit 4-1 in the Motor City in December and then had their biggest offensive performance of the season when they beat Detroit 8-2 at the Coliseum in January.

Trotz will again be looking for his 81st win behind the Isles bench, which would tie Terry Simpson for 3rd place on the all-time club list.

Following the ceremony , the Isles (4-1-0 vs Wings under Barry Trotz) will be looking to sweep the season series from Detroit for the first time since the Red Wings moved to the Eastern Conference.

The Isles defeated Detroit 4-1 in the Motor City in December and then had their biggest offensive performance of the season when they beat Detroit 8-2 at the Coliseum in January.

Trotz will again be looking for his 81^st win behind the Isles bench, which would tie Terry Simpson for 3^rd place on the all-time club list.

Conor Garland scored his 20th goal of the season 3:53 into the third period and that turned out to be the winning goal as the Arizona Coyotes edged the Isles 2-1 before a crowd of 13,956 at Gila River Arena.

About three minutes after Garland's goal, Anthony Beauvillier scored the Isles' first goal in three games, but they could not find the equalizer as they fell to 33-19-6 on the season.

The Isles have lost three straight games, all in regulation. It's the first time since March 22-26, 2018 that the Isles have lost three straight regulation games. That ended the Isles' longest streak without losing three straight in regulation in the Post-Cup era at 145 games.

The Isles are 5-1-0 in the last six games against the Avs; however, they have won only once in their last five trips to Denver (1-3-1).

The Isles (3-0-0 vs Avs under Barry Trotz) will be looking to sweep the season series from Colorado for the second straight year.

Trotz will again be looking for his 81st win behind the Isles bench, which would tie Terry Simpson for 3rd place on the all-time club list.

The Skinny on Andy Greene

Lou Lamoriello's 2nd trade as Islander GM is for someone he is very familiar - Devil captain Andy Greene.

Greene, who had played 923 games, all for New Jersey, was acquired today for David Quenneville and the Isles' 2nd round pick in 2021. The defensive defenseman has scored 49 goals and added 197 assists. He has averaged at least 19:30 per game in each of the last 11 seasons and had served as the Devils' captain since the start of the 2015-16 season.

Greene was 2-9-11 in 53 games (averaging 20:06 of ice-time) for New Jersey this season; he was also +1 (best among Devils d-men) for a team that has been outscored 135-104 in 5-on-5 play. Greene has blocked 136 shots (tied-2nd in NHL) and is coming to an Islander team that leads the NHL in blocks.

Greene, who turned 37 earlier this season, is the fourth-oldest defenseman active in the NHL (Zdeno Chara, Ron Hainsey and Derek Engelland). (There are also 4 goalies and 3 forwards who are older.)

Greene has worn #6 his entire NHL career; Ryan Pulock has worn that number his entire NHL career as well.

Greene was born in Trenton, MI on October 30, 1982 -- ironically that night the Devils played their first-ever game at the Coliseum -- and is now the oldest player on the team.

It's the first trade between the teams since July 2011 when the Isles acquired Brian Rolston in exchange for Trent Hunter. Rolston played for the Isles until the 2012 trade deadline; Hunter was waived by the Devils four days after he was acquired.

Greene will meet the Isles in Arizona; Sebastian Aho has been returned to Bridgeport.

Ryan Pulock scored the winning goal with 38.9 seconds to play as the Islanders overcame a Flyer rally to earn a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers before a crowd of 12,228 at Barclays Center.

The Isles had grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first period, but Sean Couturier capped a Flyer rally with the tying goal with 92 seconds to play. The Isles kept playing and Mathew Barzal's third assist of the night set up Pulock for the winning tally. Leo Komarov added a goal into the empty net with seconds to play to seal the victory.

The Isles improve to 33-16-6; their 72 points matches last year's Islander team for the 2nd-highest total of points thru 55 games in the Post-Cup era (73 in 2014-15).

Season Series Stats

The Isles lead the season series 3 games to 0 (and 6 points to 1).

The Isles are 8-3-0 in their last 11 games against the Flyers, including three OT/SO wins.

This was the Flyers' first game at Barclays Center since April 3, 2018; overall, the Isles are 4-2-2 in eight games between the teams in Brooklyn.

The Isles begin a four-game road trip as they head to Nashville to face the Predators.

The Isles will try to do something that they have not done under Barry Trotz: beat the Predators. Trotz will be looking for his 81st win behind the Isles bench, which would tie Terry Simpson for 3rd place on the all-time club list.

Nashville has won all three meetings by a combined 17-8 score. Two of the four regulation losses the Isles have under Trotz when they have scored three goals have come against Nashville.

Back on December 17th, the Isles had a 3-1 lead midway through the game but allowed seven straight goals to fall to the Preds, 8-3 at the Coliseum.

Despite losing the last three meetings, the Isles are 6-5-1 in the last 12 games against the Preds.
