Minnesota 5, Isles 2

Ryan Hartman and Brandon Duhaime scored 2:01 apart in the third period as the Minnesota Wild overcame a 2-1 second intermission deficit and defeated the Islanders 5-2 before a crowd of 15,547 at Xcel Energy Center. Jonas Brodin and Matt Dumba added empty-netters for the final tally as the Wild snapped the Isles' seven-game point streak.

Anders Lee scored the only Islanders goal, giving him three goals on the weekend. Lee's first goal gave the Isles the opening lead for the eighth straight game while his second tally regained the lead just 2:05 after the Wild had tied it.

The Isles have just three games remaining on this season-opening road trip; they will play just one in the next seven days – on Thursday in New Jersey.

The Islanders beat Hartford 3-2 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 4-5-0-2. Kyle MacLean scored the winning goal at 19:35 of the third period.

Bridgeport will visit Syracuse on Wednesday, Laval on Friday, and Belleville on Saturday.

Ilya Sorokin made 24 saves for his third shutout of the season and the Isles extended their point streak to seven games as they blanked the Winnipeg Jets, 2-0, before a crowd of 13,424 at Canada Life Centre.

Anders Lee scored the only goal of the first period as the Isles grabbed the lead for the seventh straight game while Brock Nelson's third period tally gave the Isles the insurance that they needed.  It was Nelson's fifth goal in the last two games. 

The Isles are 5-0-2 in their last seven games; their twelve points match their highest total through nine games under Barry Trotz (6-3-0 in 2019-20).

Bridgeport is now 3-5-0-2 on the season after dropping games in Hartford (7-4) on Friday and at home against Springfield (4-1) on Saturday.  The Islanders host Hartford on Sunday afternoon.

Brock Nelson scored four times and Ilya Sorokin made 36 saves to extend his point streak to six games as the Isles built a 5-0 lead and defeated the Montreal Canadiens before a crowd of 19,924 at Bell Centre.

Nelson scored the only goal of the first period as the Isles grabbed the lead for the sixth straight game; he then scored a pair of goal 2:58 apart in the middle period and hit the empty net in the third for the first four-goal game of his career. Anthony Beauvillier assisted on the first three tallies to match a career high in helpers.

The Isles are 4-0-2 in their last six games; their ten points match their highest total through eight games under Barry Trotz.

The Skinny         

The Isles have scored first in six straight games and in seven of their first eight games; last season the Isles scored first in 27 of their 56 games… The Isles are 4-2-2 in their first eight games, matching their best record through seven games under Barry Trotz (5-3-0 in 2019-2020)… Ilya Sorokin, the only goalie to play every game for his team, improved to 4-0-2 in the last six games, allowing only eight goals on 201 shots.  He is one game shy of matching Felix Potvin for the second-longest appearance streak to start an Isles season (9 in 1999-2000)…Lou Lamoriello became the 3rd person to serve as an NHL General Manger for 2,600 games…The Isles allowed a shorty for the first time in a regular season game since March 5, 2020, in Ottawa.

Brock Nelson now has four goals in November after scoring twice in October.  His six goals now lead the team.

• Zdeno Chara is the oldest player in club history to record a point, erasing Ron Stewart's record that was set in the club's first season.

• The Isles have not allowed a first period goal in six straight games, and have allowed only three in their first eight first periods (breaking the club record set in 1974-75, and matched in 1977-78 and 1992-93)

First Times in a Long Time

• Oliver Wahlstrom became the first Islander since Anders Lee (2017-18) to score five times in the first eight games.

• Brock Nelson matched Wahlstrom and then became the first Isle since Lee in 2013-14 with six goals in the first eight games.

• Nelson and Wahlstrom are the first Islander teammates with at least five goals in the first eight games since Mark Parrish (9) and Alexei Yashin (6) in 2001-02.

• The Isles recorded a 4-goal win in Montreal for the first time since December 23, 1992; it's only the third time in club history it has ever happened.

• Brock Nelson and Boston's Patrice Bergeron recorded 4-goal games tonight; it is the first time since November 2, 2005 (Daniel Alfredsson and Martin Havlat, both for Ottawa vs. Buffalo) that multiple players did that on the same night. Zdeno Chara had a pair of assists that night – one on Havlat's hat trick goal, and one on Alfredsson's second tally.

Tanner Jeannot scored twice, and Filip Jeannot scored the shootout deciding goal as the Nashville Predators rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits for a 3-2 win over the Islanders before 17,159 at Bridgestone Arena.

Anthony Beauvillier and Oliver Wahlstrom each scored power play goals for the Isles to twice give them the lead, only to have Jeannot (9 goals in 23 NHL games) tie it each time. Ilya Sorokin set a career-best shutout streak of 146:54 which ended with Jeannot's first tally.

The Isles are 3-0-2 in their last five games; their eight points matches their highest total through seven games under Barry Trotz.

Ilya Sorokin did it again. Sorokin made 42 saves for his 2nd consecutive shutout as the Isles blanked the Vegas Golden Knights 2-0 before 17,699 at T-Mobile Arena.

Josh Bailey and Mathew Barzal scored for the Isles as the Isles led for the final 57:44.  However, the story was Sorokin, who became the first goaltender in Islander history to record shutouts on consecutive days.

The Isles went 3-0-1 this week and end the first segment of their franchise-record 13-game road trip with a 3-2-1 record. It is the best record through six games in the Trotz era.

On the Farm

Robin Salo will always remember the first goal he scored in the Isles' organization. Salo scored the winning goal 4:10 into overtime as Bridgeport rallied from a 3-0 deficit for a 4-3 home opener win over Springfield. Bridgeport, who dropped a 3-1 decision to the Thunderbird on Friday, is now 1-2-0-2 on the season, heading into Friday's game in Springfield.  The Islanders will host Laval on Sunday afternoon.
