Tavares chasing history

John Tavares is now 22-27-49 on the season.

No Isles rookie has reached 25 goals or 50 points since Trent Hunter had 25-26-51 in the 2003-04 season.  Hunter was the first Islander rookie to have 25 goals since David Volek did so in 1988-89.

To find a rookie with at least 26, you have to go all the way back to Michael Dean Bossy, who scored 53 times during 1977-78.

While Tavares won't likely catch Matt Moulson for the club goal scoring lead (Moulson has 27), he does lead the team with 49 points.  No Isles rookie has won the Isles' scoring title outright since Denis Potvin did so in 1973-74. Hunter tied for the title in 2003-04.

Rookies who have led Isles in goals:
Billy Harris - 28 in 1972-73
Mike Bossy - 53 in 1977-78
Trent Hunter -25 in 2003-04 (tied with Mariusz Czerkawski)
Kyle Okposo-18 in 2008-09

Rookies who have led Isles in points:
Billy Harris -  50 in 1972-73
Denis Potvin -  54 in 1973-74
Trent Hunter - 51 in 2003-04 (tied with Oleg Kvasha)
