Former Islander Dmitry Nabokov passes away

Russian media reporting that Dmitri Nabokov has passed away at the age of 42.

Nabokov went 4-9-13 in 30 games for the Isles over the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 (playing most of his Islander games for Coach Butch Goring).

A former 1st round pick of the Blackhawks (1995), he was acquired by the Isles in a trade for JP Dumont and a 5th round pick.  (Dumont would eventually score over 200 NHL goals, mainly for Buffalo and Nashville.)

Nabokov returned to Russia following the 1999-2000 season.

Forever1940 is the nom de plume of Eric Hornick, statistician on Islander home telecasts since January 21, 1982. Visit my blog: NYISkinny.com and follow me on Twitter @ehornick
