Bo Horvat scored 4:29 into the third period to break a 1-1 tie and that proved to be the winning goal as the Isles rode the goaltending of Ilya Sorokin for a 3-1 victory over the Washington Capitals before a crowd of 16,471 at Capital One Arena.
Trailing 1-0, Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored shorthanded with 5:02 remaining in the middle session to tie the game; Mathew Barzal added an empty net goal. Sorokin finished with 22 saves, including thirteen in the first period.
The Isles finish their road trip with a 1-2-1 record; they open a three-game homestand against Columbus at 5:00 on Sunday.
