Islanders win! NJIT too!

The Isles weren't the only local team to break a long losing streak last night.  The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's basketball team broke a 51-game losing streak last night (longest in NCAA Division I history) by defeating Bryant University (Rhode Island) 61-51.

It was their first win since President's Day, 2007, when they defeated Longwood 78-74.  The Isles won that day too, defeating the Penguins 6-5 in a thrilling game at the Coliseum -- Mike Sillinger was the hero.

Ironically, it was the 800th win in school history for NJIT (800-701 at various levels of play); they have a shot now at a winning streak.  They play Longwood on Saturday.

Forever1940 is the nom de plume of Eric Hornick, statistician on Islander home telecasts since 1982.
