Jesper Fast scored 5:03 into overtime as the Carolina Hurricanes rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the third period to defeat the Islanders 4-3 in Game 2 of their series before a sellout crowd of 18,680 at PNC Arena.
The Isles fell behind 2-0 but got goals from Kyle Palmieri, Mathew Barzal and Brock Nelson to take a 3-2 lead in the third period; Jaccob Slavin put one in off the back of Ilya Sorokin's head to force overtime.
It was Fast's first career overtime goal; the Canes have won their last five overtime games, winning each game within the first six minutes of extra time.
Game 3 will be on Friday as UBS Arena hosts the first playoff game in the building's history.

The Skinny

The Injury
Teuvo Teravainen left the game with 3:30 to play and did not return. Rod Brind'Amour told reporters that he will need hand surgery and will not play again in this series.
First Time in a Long Time
Carolina had all six power plays in the game. It is the first time since Game 2 of the 1981 Final that an opponent has had at least six more power plays than the Isles (Minnesota 8, Isles 2). It is only the second time since power play attempts were officially recorded in 1978 that one team has had at least six power plays while the other team had none (TB 6 vs CBJ 0 in 5-4 OT win for TB 8/19/2020 to win series, 3 games to 2)
First Time Ever
It is the first time in Islander playoff history that they did not have a power play.
Stefan Noesen scored for the second straight game when his shot was deflected into the Islander goal by the Isles' Sebastian Aho. The goal is noted as an "Own Goal", meaning that Noesen is not credited with a shot on goal. He finished the game with one goal on zero shots, for a shooting percentage of Infinity.
