Was It Really Columbus Day?

After all, the Isles did not host a matinee today -- something that they did regularly in between the last two lockouts.

Between 2005 and 2011 the Isles hosted six Columbus Day matinees, winning the last two after dropping the first four.  (Had the season started on time in 2012, it would have begun after Columbus Day; the Isles were in the midst of a season-opening four game road trip on Columbus Day 2006)

In 2010 the Isles defeated the Rangers 6-4 on Columbus Day (the first time that they had scored six goals against the Rangers at home since 1993), while in 2011 the Isles defeated Minnesota 2-1 for the first victory of the season.

Columbus Day or not -- there will be plenty of home cooking over the the next three weeks as the Isles will play four straight and seven of the next nine on home ice.  Even when they go away, they will not go far -- their next game out of the Eastern Time Zone is not until December 3rd.
