Cal Ritchie scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power play, and Mathew Barzal assisted on all three Islander goals as the Isles defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1, before a sellout crowd of 18,949 at Scotiabank Arena.
Ritchie and Matthew Schaefer (one assist),both Ontario natives, were on the winning squad in their first game in Toronto. Ilya Sorokin earned his 150th career win as the Isles won their third straight road game and improved to 4-1-0 in their last five games overall. The win guarantees the Isles will finish over NHL-.500, after finishing 35-35-12 last season.
The Isles are 7-3-0 since the Olympic Break and 26-14-2 in their last 42 games; the middle game of the Canadian road trip is on Thursday against Ottawa.
