Brock Nelson and Nick Leddy scored goals 2:24 apart, early in the third period, as the Islanders rallied from a 1-0 deficit for a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers before a sellout crowd of 15,795 at Barclays Center.
The win broke several Ranger streaks for protecting leads.  The Blueshirts had been 15-0-0 this season and 51-0-1 over the last two seasons when leading after 40 minutes.  It was only the 2nd time in the last six seasons (154-2-6) that the Rangers had lost a game in regulation after leading through 40 minutes.
The Isles move two points ahead of the Rangers in the battle for second place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Isles improve to 9-3-2 in Met Division games… …The Isles are 6-7-0 in their last 13; they have outscored opponents 27-14 in the 6 wins, but have been outscored 24-6 in the 7 losses…Brock Nelson extends his team –leading  goal total to 18, three more than John Tavares; he has 10 goals in the last 16 games –Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen are the only other Islanders with as many as five goals in that span…The Isles improve to 2-12-2 when trailing after two periods…Adam Pelech recorded his first NHL point with an assist on Nelson's goal; Pelech was named the game's third star…The Rangers power play is 0-18 in the last 7 games…Jaroslav Halak improved to 8-0-0 in his last 8 head-to-head matchups with Henrik Lundqvist , including 5-0-0 as an Islander.  Halak last lost in a game that Lundqvist started on January 17, 2010 when Halak was still a Canadien…Lundqvist is 7-9-2 in his last 18 decisions… The Rangers fall to 17-2-2 when scoring first…Leddy's winning goal was the 19th power play goal allowed by the Rangers on the road this season (2 more than the Isles have allowed overall); the Rangers road penalty kill is ranked 29th in the league…The Rangers are 0-6-2 in the last 8 games that they have played after winning the previous game. ..The Isles' goals were scored 4-on-4, 5-on-4, and 5-on-6…Nick Leddy has two goals in the last 5 games, after not scoring in the first 39 games.

Kyle Okposo's empty net goal was the 128th of his career, breaking a tie with Jason Blake for 2nd among American-born Islanders.  Brock Nelson, who has 4 goals in the last two games, now had 52 career goals.  He is the 9th American-born player to record at least 50 goals for the Isles.

The Islanders were 1-2 on the power play, while the Rangers were 0-3.

The Isles are 20-2-0 when they score at least three goals (including shootout winners) and are 4-13-5 when they do not.  The Isles were 40-8-4 when they scored at least three goals (including SO winners) last season.

Jack Capuano, the 2nd winningest coach in Islander history, is 189-163-51 behind the Islander bench; Capuano coached his 400th career game on January 7th vs. the Caps.  Among the 9 New York area teams, only the Yankees' Joe Girardi has led his team longer than Capuano.

The teams have two meetings left, in Manhattan on March 6th and April 7th.  The April 7th meeting will be the Isles' final road game of the season.

On The Farm
Bridgeport is 19-16-2-1 as they head to Portland for a pair of games this weekend (Friday/Saturday). The Sound Tigers will return home to host Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

The Isles look to sweep their three game homestand as they host the Vancouver Canucks in the first of two meetings between the teams this season. 
The Canucks swept a pair of games last season, including the final opposition shutout in Nassau Coliseum history, a combined (Ryan Miller/Eddie Lack) 4-0 shutout on February 22nd.
The Isles' last win over the Canucks came in Vancouver on March 10th, 2014 in which the Isles rallied from a 3-0 second intermission deficit for a 7-4 victory.
And Finally…
Tonight at the Bell Centre, the Blackhawks defeated Montreal 2-1 for Coach Joel Quenneville's 783rd win, breaking a tie with Al Arbour for 2nd place on the all-time NHL list.  Congrats to Coach Q – any time you beat one of Al's totals, you have really accomplished something.
