Travis Hamonic broke a 2-2 tie with an early third period goal and later added his 100th career assist as the Islanders scored three goals in the third period to extend their point streak to four games with a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators before a crowd of 18,305 at Canadian Tire Center.
Hamonic, playing his first game since January 7th also assisted on a John Tavares in the third period as the Isles rallied from a 2-1 deficit midway through the second period.
The Isles remain one point behind the Rangers in the battle for second place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Skinny:
The Isles are 7-7-1 in their last 15; they have outscored opponents 32-16 in the 7 wins (7-0-0), but have been outscored 25-7 in the 8 losses (0-7-1)…Brock Nelson played his 200th NHL game…The Isles have won 3 straight vs. Atlantic Division opponents after opening the season 1-8-2 vs the Atlantic…Kyle Okposo had two points, raising his career total to 340 points, which matched Pierre Turgeon for 15th place on the all-time Isles scoring list…The Isles got goals from both Travis Hamonic and Nick Leddy; while Marek Zidlicky had a 2-goal game last month vs. New Jersey, this was the first time that two Islander defensemen scored in the same game since last February 19th vs Nashville, when Leddy, Johnny Boychuk and Brian Strait all scored.  The last time two Islander defensemen scored in the same game on the road was on October 10, 2014 in Carolina (Hamonic and Boychuk)…The Isles have outscored their opponents 51-38 in the third period this season…Ottawa is now 2-7-0 on the back-end of back-to-backs…Chris Neil's third period slashing penalty raised his career penalty minute total to 2,400…Nick Leddy has points in 8 of the last 11 games (3-5-8)…The Isles have allowed only 6 goals in their last 4 games…The Isles matched their season-high 10 games over NHL-.500 for the first time since December 13th…John Tavares' goal was his first in 7 games…Erik Karlsson has points on all five goals Ottawa has scored against the Isles this season…The Isles have outscored their opponents 9-0 over the last four games; they have scored at least three third period goals seven times this season and are 7-0-0 in those games...Other than holiday and all-star breaks, the Isles had four consecutive off-days for the first time since March 2014.
 
The Injury
Milan Michalek suffered a fractured finger blocking a shot in the second period and did not return.
 
Still Perfect
The Isles are on another penalty-killing streak, going a perfect 22-22 over the last six games.  Ottawa did come close to converting, scoring two seconds after a penalty to Matt Martin expired.

The Isles return home to begin a three game homestand as they host the Flyers.  It will be the fourth of five meetings on the season between the teams; the Isles have captured two of the first three (Isles 2-1-0; Philadelphia 1-1-1).
