Kasperi Kapanen scored the game's only goal and Tristan Jarry made 25 saves for his third shutout in eight days as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Islanders 1-0 before a sellout crowd of 17,255 at UBS Arena.

The Isles have lost eight straight, all in regulation, to fall five games under NHL-.500 for the first time since January 16, 2012 (16-21-6).

The Skinny         
The Isles have been outscored 32-7 in their eight-game losing streak. It's the first time since 2010-11 that the Isles have lost eight straight in regulation; the Isles did have a ten-game winless streak (0-8-2) in November/December 2013…The Islanders have been outscored 3 to 1 on their own power play in November (in 29 opportunities) …The Isles are 0-4-0 to open a home season for the first time in their history… The Isles have not led at any point in the last 356:44 and have scored only seven goals in their last eight games. It is the fewest goals the Isles have scored in an eight game stretch in their history…Scott Mayfield blocked seven shots, matching the second-highest total of his career… Columbus (five games in 2000) is the only NHL team with a longer losing streak (no points) to open a new venue…Robin Salo is averaging 21:26 of ice-time through four games (highest average on the team, including regulars)..Sidney Crosby's assist on the winning goal was his 123rd career point (39-84-123) against the Isles… It is the first time a team coached by Barry Trotz has lost eight straight games…Tristan Jarry has allowed only two goals in his last five games, all Penguin wins.

The COVID List
The Isles were without six players due to Covid protocol: Adam Pelech, Andy Greene, Kieffer Bellows, Anders Lee, Zdeno Chara and Ross Johnston. Ryan Pulock and Brock Nelson missed the game with injuries. Josh Bailey has exited protocol but did not play.

Staying Close to Home
The Isles will not leave the Eastern Time Zone until January 4th in Seattle. The Islanders will not spend consecutive nights on the road at any point (playing consecutive road games only once – November 28th at The Garden and November 30th in Philadelphia). By the time the Isles hit the Olympic/All-Star Break, they will have played 25 of their 49 games at home.

On the Farm
Bridgeport fell to 5-11-1-2 with a 3-2 loss to Providence on Friday. Collin Adams and Erik Brown each scored their first goals for the Baby Isles. 

Bridgeport visits Lehigh Valley on Saturday and then doesn't play again until the following Saturday.

Season Series Stats
Pittsburgh leads the season series 1 game to 0 (and 2 points to 0).  The teams will meet again at UBS Arena on March 10th and then will have their only meeting of the season in Pittsburgh on April 14th. 

The loss ended a nine-game Islander home point streak against Pittsburgh (5-0-4).

The Isles begin a two-game road trip with their first trip this season to Madison Square Garden.

This will be the second meeting of the teams this season, with the Ranges earning a 4-1 win on UBS ice on Thanksgiving Eve.

The teams played four times at MSG last season, and all four games ended in shutouts.  The Isles won three of them, as Semyon Varlamov became the first goalie to ever blank the Rangers three times in one season at The Garden.
