Ryan Strome's first NHL goal jump-started an Islander comeback as the Isles rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Dallas Stars 7-3 before a crowd of 11,111 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. John Tavares had five points for the Islanders, including his fifth career hat trick.

The Skinny:
Thomas Vanek extended his point streak to nine games, a career high. Vanek has the longest current streak in the NHL…John Tavares extended his point streak to 5 games…John Tavares records his fifth career hat trick; the hat trick tally was his 300th NHL point and his 20th goal of the season… Andrew Mac Donald had an assist for the fifth consecutive game; he has eight assists in those five games… The Isles have allowed an NHL-high 62 goals in the second period this season, but they have now scored 55 goals in the frame themselves (Tied-2nd with Washington)…The Isles defense combined for six points…The Isles are 8-1-0 when they score at least three goals in a period; they have had a three-goal period in each of their last four regulation wins…The Isles had two periods with at least three goals for the first time since March 5, 2013 vs. Montreal…It's the 4th time this season that the Isles have rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win (4-9-0)…The Isles played the game without Kyle Okposo, who missed the game while tending to the birth of his first child. It was the first game Okposo missed since November 19, 2011 (had played in 156 straight).
The Injuries:
Evgeni Nabokov suffered a lower body injury in the first period and did not return. He was placed on injured reserve after the game.
Travis Hamonic left the game after he was hit with a Ryan Garbutt high stick with 4:31 in the first period and did not return.
The Captain
John Tavares moved into third place in NHL scoring with his second career 5-point game, and first at the Coliseum (3/16/2010 in Vancouver). Tavares now has 48 goals since the start of last season, which is second to Alexander Ovechkin's 63. Tavares became the 17th Islander to record 300 points and the 12th Islander to record five 20-goal seasons (He joins Bossy, Trottier, Brent Sutter, Gillies, Nystrom and Harris as Isles who did so in each of their first five full NHL seasons). It is the 8th time in his career (and second time in less than a week) that he has recorded at least four points – his teammates have combined for that feat only three times in that span. Tavares also moved into the Isles' Top 20 in assists with his 168th assist; he is now in the Top 20 in goals, assists and points...Tavares
now leads the entire NHL in points outside his own division with 37 (Ryan
Getzlaf 35, Sidney Crosby 34).

First Times in a Long Time
- The Isles scored seven goals for the first time since January 24, 2013 in Toronto. They have not scored seven goals at a home since a 9-3 win over Pittsburgh on February 11, 2011.
- The Isles scored 6 goals, and then 7, against the Stars for the first time since the franchise moved from Minnesota. The last time the Isles scored seven goals against the Stars was on 11/19/1991 in Bloomington.
- The Isles defense combined for six points. It's the first time since March 31, 2011 vs. the Rangers (seven points) that the Isles have had at least six points from their defense.
- John Tavares is the first Islander since Josh Bailey (3/27/12 vs Pittsburgh) to record five points in a game. (No Islander has had a six-point game since Pat Lafontaine had two of them in 1990)
- Andrew MacDonald is the first Islander defenseman with a point in five straight games since Mark Streit, who had a point in six straight from March 11-24, 2012.
- MacDonald is the first Islander defenseman with an assist in five straight games since James Wisniewski, October 16-27, 2010. (Wisniewski actually had an assist in his first 7 games as an Islander, but only five of those games were consecutive).
- Peter Regin recorded his first goal since October 8th vs Phoenix. The Isles have scored 13 goals in the games that Regin has scored. Regin is the 279th Islander to score at least two career goals. (In the third period, Strait became the 280th).
- The Isles won a home game in regulation for the first time since November 12th vs. Nashville.
First Times … Ever
Ryan Strome recorded his first NHL goal (in his 11th NHL game). He is the 338th Islander to score a goal.
Calvin deHaan assisted on the winning goal and added a second assist in the third period for his first two NHL points.

It was the sixth time this season that the Islanders had at least 40 shots (4-1-1). It's the second time this season that the Isles have had 40 shots in consecutive games (10/15-10/17).
Home and Road
The Islanders are 15-22-7 overall, 7-9-7 at home and 8-13-0 on the road. The Isles are 7-4-2 in their last thirteen games overall but this was only their second win in their last 11 (2-5-4) home games.
The Stars are 20-15-7 overall; they are 9-6-5 at home and 11-9-2 on the road. The Stars have lost three straight, all in regulation for the first time this season.
By Division
The Isles are 3-10-3 in Division games and are 12-12-4 in games against other divisions. They are 5-3-3 vs. the Atlantic Division, 4-4-0 vs. Central Division, and 3-5-1 vs. the Pacific Division.
In the Nets
Evgeni Nabokov made 7 saves before leaving at the 12:54 mark with an injury.
Kevin Poulin allowed a goal on the first shot he faced but stopped 13 of the other 14 and improves 6-12-0 on the season.
Kari Lehtonen made 36 saves for Dallas but falls to 16-10-7. He allowed seven goals for the fourth time this season, matching a career high.
Power Plays
The Islanders were 3-6 3-51-4. The Isles converted on a third period 5-on-3 for their 4th 5-on-3 goal of the season (tied-NHL lead). (An official stats issue was corrected two days after the game)
The Isles are 9-6-4 when they score at least one power play goal and 6-16-3 when they do not. The Isles are 7-14-3 when they allow at least one power play goal and 8-8-4 when they do not.
The Islander special teams have improved as of late. The power play is 10-31 32 over the last ten games while the Isles have killed 22 23 of 28 27 over the last eleven games while scoring two shorthanded goals. The power play now ranks 13th in the NHL and 8th at home.
Three is a Magic Number
The Isles are 15-4-2 when they score at least three goals (including shootout winners) and are 0-18-5 when they do not.

In the ten previous sets of back-to-backs, they have earned 4 points once, 3 points once, 2 points four times, 1 point once and no points on three occasions.
The Isles will look to sweep back-to-backs for the first time since November 1st-2nd in Toronto on Tuesday.

Missing Men
Lubomir Visnovsky and Radek Martinek remain on injured reserve. Josh Bailey returned after missing four games with an upper body injury, replacing Kyle Okposo (birth of his daughter) while Matt Donovan appeared in his first NHL game since November 27th, replacing Matt Carkner. Eric Boulton was scratched. The Isles have lost 113 games this season due to injury.
Nobody Beats the Viz

Happy Anniversary
33 years ago tonight (1-6-81): John Tonelli tied the franchise record with five goals and Mike Bossy became the only Islander to ever record a six-assist game as the Isles beat Toronto 6-3 at the Coliseum.
Overall, the Isles are 9-9-0 on this date, including an 8-1 win over Kansas City in 1976 as Jude Drouin recorded his only hat trick as an Islander.
On The Farm
Bridgeport is 13-18-1-4 on the season and are off until Friday when they visit Manchester.
Anders Lee leads Bridgeport with 13 goals; Lee also leads current Sound Tigers in both assists (13) and points (26). Ryan Strome still leads the team in assists (24) and points (33).

Jack Capuano looks for his 100th victory and the Islanders begin a pivotal six-game road trip as the face the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Center.
The Leafs scored just 22 seconds into the previous meeting on November 19th and led start to finish in a 5-2 win over the Isles. That loss broke a three-game Islander winning streak in Toronto and is the Isles' only regulation loss to the Leafs in their last six meetings (3-1-2).
