The Skinny on Isles Neutral Site games

Wednesday's game at Yankee Stadium will mark the third Islander "home" game not played at the Coliseum, joining games played in Oklahoma City in 1992 and in Minneapolis in 1994.  Overall, it's the fifth time that the Isles will play a game in a rink that was not a NHL's home team venue at the time.

The others:
13-Dec-92 Vs Edmonton (@ Okla City) 4 1 W
Steve Thomas & Tom Fitzgerald each scored 1st as the Isles rallied from a 1-0 deficit before 11,110 in Oklahoma City.

15-Dec-92 @ St. Louis (@ Dallas)    4 3 Wot

Derek King scored the overtime winner before 11,251 at Reunion Arena in Dallas.

18-Nov-93 @ Montreal(@ Hamilton)    5 1 W
Pierre Turgeon scored twice and added an assist; Ron Hextall made 34 saves and was named the game's #1 star before a sellout crowd of 17,008 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton.

18-Mar-94 Vs Buffalo (@ Minneapolis) 2 2 T
Travis Green and Ray Ferraro scored for the Isles, who rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to tie Buffalo. Dominik Hasek and Jamie McLennan battled in nets and were the top 2 stars before only 8,016 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

The Isles also played two games in Springfield, MA in the 1979-80 season as the Hartford Civic Center roof was being repaired.  The Isles beat Hartford 2-1 on October 26, 1979 as they rallied from a 1-0 deficit on third period goals from John Tonelli and Mike Bossy and then dropped a 5-3 decision on February 3, 1980 in the final game the Whale played before returning to Hartford.  Jordy Douglas had four goals for the Whalers in that game.
