It Happened at the Coliseum … on FEBRUARY 9th

5 years ago tonight (2010) - Mark Streit scored a power play goal with just over 11 seconds to play to knot the game and John Tavares provided the deciding goal in the shoot-out as the Islanders defeated the Predators 4-3 at the Coliseum.

It was an offensive night for the defense as fellow defensemen Freddy Meyer IV and Bruno Gervais also scored for the Isles, who broke a seven game losing streak.

Frans Nielsen also scored in the shootout for the Isles; at that point of his career he was 10 for 17 in the “skills competition”.  (He scored for the 38th time in 68 attempts on Thursday in Philadelphia)

Marty Biron recorded his first win since November 13th, as he broke a personal six –game losing streak. "It felt good," Biron said. "It's been a while and it was one of those games where I was trying to get myself in a rhythm and was battling a little bit. The guys definitely came through with some big plays at key points."

Matt Martin made his NHL debut and assisted on the last two Islander goals.

Here are the highlight's, from the Predators broadcast, with Pete Weber and Original Islander Terry Crisp on the call:

Also on this date: (2012) – Mark Streit scored the 10,000 goal in franchise history, but the Isles fell 4-2 to Montreal.

Also on this date (1985), Bryan Trottier became the first player to score 25 or more goals in each of his 1st ten seasons as the Isles beat Pittsburgh 4-1.  (Thanks @NHLhistorygirl for the reminder)

All-time, the Isles have played ten February 9th games at the Coliseum and finish with a 3-7-0 record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.
