Lorsque Montréal rencontra Detroit pour la première fois de la saison, on fut confronté à un problème puisque les deux équipes portaient un chandail de couleur rouge, une situation qui allait assurément semer la confusion. Les Wings durent porter un chandail blanc, dans ce qui allait être une défaite de 1 à 0... George Hainsworth enregistra son 68e jeu blanc en carrière.

When Detroit met Montreal for the first time in the season there was a problem: both teams had nearly identical red jerseys! The Wings were forced to wear white pullovers in what would eventually be a 1-0 loss… George Hainsworth recorded his 68th career shutout.

It was the first road game (and 3rd game overall) in Red Wings history.  The franchise was known as the Falcons prior to that season. The game was decided, according to an AP story in the NY Times, as a "spectacular goal by Wildor Larochelle, on a pass from Pete Lepine" at 8:11 of overtime.
