Last season the Isles used 6 goalies (and dressed 7). With Montoya unavailable Saturday, the Isles will dress their 4th goalie of the season.
So, as the Isles look forward to honoring Ed Westfall, one might wonder: how many goalies did 18 play in front of as an Islander?
Eddie played 7 seasons for the Isles. In that time, the Isles used 5 goalies... total.
Billy Smith played in 294 games, Chico Resch appeared in 205. Fans of a certain age will remember Gerry Desjardins -- he appeared in 80 games.
The other two: Gerry Gray played in the fourth game in Isles history [10/17/72], lost 5-0 to Pittsburgh, and never played in the NHL again.
He played a lot longer than Goran Hogosta, who relieved Smith for 9 minutes on 11/1/77 in a 9-0 slaughter of Atlanta. It was his only appearance in an Isles uniform.
