It Happened at the Coliseum … on JANUARY 12th

5 years ago tonight (2010) - Deuces were wild for the Isles as they scored twice in each period, got two goals by Rob Schremp, got two goals by their defense, and battered two Red Wing goalies in nearly doubling Detroit in shots (31-16) enroute to a 6-0 victory over the Red Wings.

Dwayne Roloson was in the Islander net, recording his only shutout as an Islander, and the 24th of his career as the Red Wings were shutout on Long Island for the first time in 34 years. “"I've played against Detroit a lot in my career and that's probably one of the best games I've seen against them,” Roloson told Newsday’s Katie Strang.

The Isles improved to 7-2-1 in their last ten games, matching their best ten game streak since late-February, 2008 while Roloson extended his season mark to 18-7-6 with his fourth straight win.

The Isles moved over .500 after Christmas for the first time since March 11, 2008.

The highlights are from the Red Wings telecast with Ken Daniels  at the mic on Fox Sports Detroit.

Also on this date: (1993) – Vladimir Malakhov scored consecutive goals and then fellow defenseman Scott Lachance did the same as the Isles pounded Calgary 8-2.  Iain Fraser also scored twice for the Isles; they were his first two NHL goals and his only two in an Islander uniform.

Do you remember the day Malakhov changed jersey numbers? It was on February 11, 1995, before a game with Buffalo.  Malakhov's first NHL jersey was needed for a different spot.  The rafters.

All-time, the Isles have played nine January 12th games at the Coliseum and finish with a 6-1-2 record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.
