Game 30

The Isles also broke Chicago's 8-game winning streak as they handed the Blackhawks only their second loss in their last 13 games (11-2-0).

The Islanders remain in second place in the Metropolitan Division, climbing within two points of the first place Pittsburgh Penguins.

Season Series Stats
The Isles lead the season series 1 game to 0 (and 2 points to 0).  The teams will meet again on St. Patrick's Day in Chicago.
Each of the last four games between the teams have ended in a 3-2 score.
The Isles are 8-2-2 in the last 12 games against Chicago, including 5-0-1 at the Coliseum since a 3-2 Chicago win in December of 2002.

31 years ago tonight (1983)- The Islanders scored four goals in the first 5:17 and cruised to an 8-5 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in a rematch of the previous year's Stanley Cup Final.

Mike Bossy scored the first two goals but it would be Butch Goring's big night as Goring tallied four goals.  The Isles built a 7-2 lead through 40 minutes; Goring's 4th tally came shorthanded and into an empty net with 2:45 to play.  It was Goring's 14th (and final) career hat trick and his 4th as an Islander.

Wayne Gretzky broke his own NHL record by extending his point streak to 31 straight games; he later recorded his first goal in nine games against the Isles, tallying his 300th career goal (in an NHL-record 350 games).

Oilers Coach/GM Glen Sather told the Philadelphia Daily News' Jay Greenberg: ''We were intimidated. A lot of our guys were afraid to touch the puck, giving it away like they don't want it. The Islanders are a great hockey club. I don't know whether they can come back when they're down because we've never had them in that position"

Goring noted "I think that the crowd has been waiting all year for this."

It was the ninth straight time, including playoffs, over two seasons that the Isles had beaten the Oilers.

Also on this date: (2003) – Garth Snow recorded 18 saves for his only Coliseum shutout as an Islander as the Isles blanked Atlanta 4-0.
All-time, the Isles have played eight December 13th games at the Coliseum and have compiled a 6-1-1 record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.

On The Farm
Bridgeport is 12-10-2-1 on the season after a 4-1 loss on Friday in Wilkes-Barre. Kael Mouillerat scored Bridgeport's only goal. The Sound Tigers return home to host Hartford on Sunday at 3pm in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game.

Up Next
MONDAY, DECEMBER 15th—NEW JERSEY AT ISLANDERS 7:00PM
[MSG (Isles Pre-game at 6:30pm), 88.7 WRHU-FM, 103.9 WRCN]

The New Jersey Devils become the first Eastern Conference team to make their final regular season visit to the Coliseum as the local rivals meet for the second time this season.

The Isles defeated New Jersey 3-1 at the Coliseum on November 29th for their third straight win over the Devils.

The Isles will be looking for their fourth straight win over the Devils (dating back to last season), which is something that they haven't accomplished
since they beat New Jersey in six straight games from April 2007 to January 2008.

And Finally…
Blackhawks TV announcer Pat Foley made his first visit to the Coliseum since being honored at the Hockey Hall of Fame last month. So in his honor, I tweeted after the game his signature sign-off:  "We hope you enjoyed our broadcast  -- I knowwww you enjoyed the outcome."
